Ales Bialiatski expressed words of support for Novaya Gazeta, which today announced the cessation of its work in Russia.

On October 30, Novaya Gazeta announced the cessation of its work in Russia. Ales Bialiatski, chairman of Viasna and Nobel laureate, expressed solidarity with Novaya Gazeta, Viasna reports.
During its 33 years of existence, the publication lost six journalists and authors, killed because of their work, among them Anna Politkovskaya and Natalia Estemirova. After 2022, the editorial office remained in Russia and continued to work despite the revocation of licenses, judicial persecution, and the status of a 'foreign agent'.
"I learned about being awarded the Nobel Prize in a Belarusian prison in 2022, a year after Dmitry Muratov [he was awarded the prize in 2021 – NN]. We didn't know each other, but I knew that Dmitry would speak on my behalf. And so he did," says Ales Bialiatski.
The human rights defender notes that today Dmitry Muratov, the last Nobel laureate still working in Russia, records the killing of his newspaper.
