Polish President addressed the nation after attempted "seizure" of the Tribunal
Karol Nawrocki stated that representatives of parliamentary forces will be convened today to stabilize the political situation and restore constitutional order.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that an armed seizure of the Constitutional Tribunal — one of the country's highest judicial bodies — occurred in Warsaw tonight, writes Onet.pl.
"Tonight, in the Republic of Poland, a breach of public order and an armed seizure of a constitutional state body took place. I consulted with the First President of the Supreme Court, Judge Zbigniew Kapiński, who also does not consider the actions of the individuals usurping power in the Constitutional Tribunal to be lawful," he stated, addressing the rally participants.
The Constitutional Tribunal of Poland is the highest body of constitutional review, which verifies laws and other normative acts for compliance with the Constitution. It also resolves disputes over the powers of central state bodies and citizens' complaints about the violation of their constitutional rights. The Tribunal's decisions are generally binding and final.
Therefore, control over its composition and leadership has significant political importance: the court can declare laws passed by parliament and government unconstitutional.
Nawrocki called for the restoration of law and order, and for security forces to leave the premises of the Constitutional Tribunal.
"In connection with the threat to the internal security of the Republic of Poland, I am convening urgent consultations today with representatives of parliamentary forces to stabilize the political situation and restore constitutional order," he added.
In Poland, two groups of judges consider themselves legitimate representatives of the Constitutional Tribunal, and the president and government support different sides. Therefore, the question of who has the right to lead the court and dispose of its building has become a subject of political confrontation.
The conflict began back in 2015. At that time, the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party came to power and began to change the judicial system. In particular, it appointed judges to the Constitutional Tribunal in positions that were already occupied by judges elected by the previous parliament. This led to accusations of politicization of the court and a crisis of its legitimacy.
