Volha Harbunova: I don't want the opposition in exile to come to real power in Belarus, and Sviatlana to become president
"I am a stranger among strangers, a stranger among my own people."

Volha Harbunova — a former political prisoner, a former "minister for political prisoners," and now an associate of Valery Kavaleuski — explained to the "Pink Scarves" initiative why she signed a letter to European leaders calling for more active negotiations regarding the release of political prisoners.
"Political prisoners should not be hostages in the political struggle for power between the Belarusian opposition and the authorities. They marked people inside prisons. Some — with yellow tags and their unjust treatment. Others — by calling us heroes, unbreakable, ready to sit until the end, 'enemies of the regime'."
But I was no one's enemy, like many others. I was shocked by the horrific violence; everything else did not surprise me. I just wanted to be stopped from being used by both sides and to be released home to my family.
I am not a heroine, and I did not want to die. I want to live. I want the other political prisoners to be alive. I want them to come out alive and healthy from prisons and PUATs, from house arrest and from forced psychiatric treatment. Let them write 'lobbyists,' 'agents' in social networks later, but let them be alive, healthy, free; let them write in those cursed social networks," Harbunova wrote.
She states that she supports democratic values with all her heart.
"Therefore, I personally do not want the current opposition in exile to come to real power in Belarus, and Sviatlana to become president. The attitude towards people, towards the value of human life, and towards freedoms has become a decisive factor in my disillusionment with the Belarusian opposition," Harbunova continues.
"I am a stranger among strangers, a stranger among my own people," she declares.
