Human rights activist and former political prisoner Uladzimir Labkovich, after Sofia Sapega's interview , published a memory about a cellmate from Valadarka (prison). The latter was given 15 years exclusively based on Roman Protasevich's testimony. Labkovich does not name the cellmate.
According to the human rights activist, the man was involved in the case of district chats. Initially, he was charged with leading an "extremist formation," for which, as Labkovich writes, he faced up to six years in prison.
Before the end of the investigation, the man was summoned for a final interrogation. He returned with new charges — including terrorism and treason. Now, the discussion was about a term of no less than 15 years.
«He was silent all day, and in the morning, he woke up completely gray. I had never seen anything like it. But it shocked the entire cell. He was only 35 years old, and he had gone completely gray.
Ultimately, he was given 15 years.
I read his verdict because I was writing an appeal.
All the charges rested solely on the testimony of one witness, who was a certain Roman Protasevich. And there was nothing else against the guy.
Protasevich was not even brought to court. Only written testimonies.
Before the transfer (to another facility), this guy told me that his mother was told he only received 4 years because she wouldn't have been able to handle the truth about 15 years. I don't know what they are telling her now, because six years have already passed, including the time in the pre-trial detention center (SIZO),» Labkovich wrote.
