Apple presented the first MacBook with a touch screen
On Wednesday, Apple updated its Mac computer lineup. The main novelty was the company's first-ever laptop with a touch display, although the brand previously completely rejected touchscreens on PCs. Office Life gathered the most interesting facts about the presentation.

Touch MacBook Pro and Tandem OLED displays
The flagship MacBook Pro with a Proled XDR display received touch control functionality. The touchscreen sensors are built directly into the display panel, not overlaid, which reduced latency. The macOS 27 interface automatically converts touches into clicks, so old software works without updates.
The laptop screen is made using Tandem OLED technology (two layers of pixels). It delivers up to 2000 nits of brightness and supports P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces.
Due to the thin OLED matrix, the 14-inch and 16-inch laptops have become lighter (1.36 kg and 1.81 kg). The battery lasts for 24 hours of operation. The new products received Thunderbolt 5 ports, and the maximum memory volume can now be increased to 16 TB.
Older touch laptops run on M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. However, a day before them, Apple showed the base 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac all-in-one — but already on the next-generation M6 chip.
How much do the new products cost and what about the chips?
Prices in the USA:
- 14-inch MacBook Pro (M5 Pro) — from $2899;
- 16-inch MacBook Pro (M5 Pro) — from $3399;
- MacBook Pro on M5 Max chip — from $4499;
- Base MacBook Pro on M6 chip — from $1999;
- Updated iMac on M6 chip — from $1499.
Such an emphasis on expensive versions with huge storage (up to 16 TB) is understandable. In October, it was reported that Apple had sharply cut orders for components for the iPhone 18 Pro due to a shortage and rising prices for memory, which AI developers were massively buying up. Apparently, the company has now directed semiconductors to more marginal and expensive computers.
The touchscreen on PCs was implemented for the launch of the paid Apple Creator Studio package (a subscription will cost $12.99 per month). In the music software Logic Pro, you can now play on a Multi-Touch keyboard directly on the screen, and in Final Cut Pro, you can edit videos with gestures. Last week it was reported that Apple acquired the AI music editor Samplab. Now it's clear that its technologies were taken specifically for the new touch features of Logic Pro.
When to expect in stores?
Global pre-orders are already open, and sales in the USA will begin on Friday, November 6.
In Belarus, official sales usually start with a delay of 3-4 weeks. As the recent launch of the iPhone 18 Pro in Minsk showed, the new products will arrive by the end of November or early December.
