Woman evacuated to Gomel from Oleshky about Ukrainians and Belarusians: we are one people
The phrase referred to the kinship ties between the Belarusian and Ukrainian peoples.
A Ukrainian woman evacuated to Gomel from Russian-occupied Oleshky near Kherson shared her emotions with journalists:
“We lived in a dacha, but we moved to Oleshky quite recently, we are very upset because we are from Kherson ourselves. We have many acquaintances in Kherson from Belarus, and he (probably referring to the woman's husband — NN) is from Kostopil (a village in Rivne region — NN), it's near Belarus, all his relatives are there. We believe that we are all still one people, no matter what. God grant, everything will be fine,” the woman said.
Today, four planes arrived in Gomel with evacuated residents of Oleshky who wished to move to Ukraine. Elderly people were evacuated with their pets. 17 buses decided to go to Ukraine from Oleshky, and four to Russia.
At Gomel airport, Ukrainians will wait to depart for "Novaya Huta" — it is through this checkpoint that they will need to pass to the territory of Ukraine, where they wished to move from the town near Kherson occupied by Russians.
Oleshky, which has been under Russian control, in recent months found itself in a situation close to a humanitarian catastrophe. The city is constantly shelled, and there is almost no possibility to leave, as most roads are mined.
At the end of October, with the mediation of Melania Trump, Russia and Ukraine agreed on a local ceasefire to allow residents to leave the city. The silence regime began to operate on October 27 and, by agreement, should continue until November 1. The absolute majority of residents wished to return to Ukraine, and the First Lady of the USA, Melania Trump, played a major role in resolving the humanitarian crisis.
