Krasulin: People in Belarusian prisons are not as at risk as Ukrainians targeted by missiles

«After all, the death rate in prisons is not 100%».

Political analyst, Candidate of Historical Sciences Yauhen Krasulin, in a broadcast on Belsat, criticized an open letter from former political prisoners to European politicians. According to him, the document is based on an emotional appeal to the audience.

«There are many manipulations in this letter. Including the assertion that life is the highest value, and therefore people should be pulled out of prisons. But after all, the death rate in prisons is not 100%», he said.

«People who are there are not as at risk as Ukrainians right now, who are being hit by missiles, drones, shells, which the Lukashenka regime of Belarus helps to produce», the analyst added.

Krasulin sees the purpose of the letter as initiating negotiations with the regime.

«Moreover, democratic forces are being pushed aside. They cease to be a subject. Belarusians cease to be a subject. The subjects are the Lukashenka regime and European politicians», he believes.

According to Krasulin, there is no reason to call such an approach new. «In fact, this is a very old strategy», assures the historian, recalling two liberalizations — on the eve of the 2010 elections, and also the release of political prisoners and the lifting of sanctions in the mid-2010s.

«Every turn of the strategy leads to a new wave of repression at a higher level. Because the regime needs neither liberalization nor the release of people. Repression is fear; it is the pillar on which authoritarianism stands», Krasulin argues.
