Marco Rubio May Resign to Prepare for Presidential Campaign

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is considering leaving Donald Trump's administration to prepare for participation in the 2028 presidential elections. This was reported by The Independent, citing influential sources in the US and the British government.

After the Republican defeat in the midterm congressional elections, Rubio, according to the publication, may try to distance himself from the Trump administration's policy, particularly the war with Iran. This would allow him to improve his chances of becoming the Republican Party's candidate in the next presidential elections.

According to the publication's interlocutors, Rubio's main competitor in the fight for the Republican nomination is currently Vice President J.D. Vance.

Rubio is one of five members of the current Trump administration who are expected to leave their positions after the unfavorable midterm elections for Republicans.

One political insider in Washington believes that Rubio needs to distance himself from the war with Iran and shift responsibility for it onto Trump himself.

One of the Secretary of State's associates also stated that his resignation would be a completely logical step. According to him, Rubio currently holds a better position than Vance in the race for the Republican Party's nomination. However, as long as he remains head of the State Department, it will be difficult to launch a full-fledged presidential campaign. Furthermore, a connection with the Trump administration could negatively impact his electoral prospects.

Vice President Vance, after the unfavorable election results, has also criticized the war in Iran, seeking to distance himself from this policy.

It is assumed that Donald Trump may blame Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for the military policy and subsequent electoral defeats. Among those who may also become targets of criticism and responsible for the administration's failures are named Marco Rubio and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

Meanwhile, the British government and Republicans have noted that Rubio has recently played a less prominent role in the Iran issue, despite remaining one of the key figures in US foreign policy.

A source in the British government told the publication that they are closely monitoring Rubio's next steps after the midterm elections. In their opinion, he is unlikely to remain in his current position for long and will most likely try to nominate himself for the US presidency.

За последние два года республиканская партия благодаря Трампу настолько дискредитировала себя, что у Рубио практически нет шансов. А Трамп за оставшееся время сможет ещё много чего начудачить.
