Which flu vaccines are available in Belarus and when is the peak incidence expected?
People from risk groups are vaccinated free of charge with the Russian vaccine "Grippol Plus". For their own money, foreign preparations can be chosen. Doctors expect a significant increase in illnesses in late January - early February 2027.
The mass flu vaccination campaign began in Belarus in October, "Minsk-Novosti" reports, citing epidemiologist Kirill Ignatov.
People for whom flu is particularly dangerous are vaccinated free of charge with the Russian-made vaccine "Grippol Plus":
- children from six months to three years old;
- children from three years old and adults with chronic diseases or immunodeficiency;
- people aged 65 and over;
- pregnant women;
- medical and pharmaceutical workers;
- children and adults in round-the-clock care facilities;
- employees of state bodies that ensure the safety and vital activity of the population.
Doctors aim to vaccinate at least 75% of people from risk groups.
For paid vaccination, medical institutions promise to offer "Influvac Tetra" manufactured in the Netherlands and the French vaccine "Vaxigrip Tetra".
The composition of vaccines for the 2026-2027 season has been updated. It includes components against strains A(H1N1) "Missouri", A(H3N2) "Darwin" and influenza B virus of the "Victoria" lineage - "Tokyo". This specific composition for the Northern Hemisphere was recommended by the World Health Organization.
Currently, only non-influenza respiratory viruses are detected in Belarus: parainfluenza, rhinoviruses, bocaviruses, and adenoviruses. Epidemiologists describe the situation as stable.
A significant seasonal increase in acute respiratory infections is predicted for late January - early February 2027. The peak is expected in February, when flu, SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, and other respiratory viruses may circulate simultaneously.
Vaccination does not guarantee that a person will not contract the flu at all, but it reduces the risk of severe illness and dangerous complications.
